Survived my first major windstorm. These Santa Ana winds in LA are no joke! I’ve never experienced anything like it! I remember a dust storm hitting Pasadena a couple of years ago when we first moved here. That was my 1st such storm but that was nothing compared to this. The storm hit Wednesday and by night it was blowing SUPER HARD. Even though the kids slept through it, I kept waking up throughout the night and waking Hubby up too. I was so scared. Hubby and I were out early the next morning Thursday, December 1 to assess the damage. We helped neighbors clear the streets of the huge tree branches that fell from the euclyptus tree in the front yard. The tree in the back yard that was nice and bushy the previous afternoon now has NO leaves at all. Pretty hilarious. Thankfully, the house and the cars were unscathed. School was cancelled as Pasadena declared a state of emergency so the kids got another 4-day weekend. Later that evening, we drove around the neighborhood and checked on the kids’ school. WOW! Pasadena was indeed hit hard. Miraculously, trees mostly fell into the streets and we saw only 1 house that was boarded up because a tree went through it. The local news reported no fatalities, another miracle.
On Friday, we went to the library so I could get online and get the kids out of the house some. It was PACKED! The whole neighborhood was there. Many people were still without power and Internet. Lots of laptops and iPads in there that day. But the sense of community was awesome! Folks talking to their neighbors and friends. I ended up hanging out with a friend of mine there and the kids’ saw their friends too.
I’m feeling very blessed about the whole ordeal. I feeling like a new season of cleansing is upon us. Hubby and I been clearing out and cleaning out. The winds left our property spotless. Kind of crazy. Kind of weird. But definitely blessed by “Hurricane Pasadena”!
