From the beach to the mountains. Incredible to live in a place that offers all this.

Afar nomads travel for weeks in camel train from Ethiopia to harvest salt from the Djibouti salt flats. They sell the bags for around $5 a piece. This way of life my be coming to an end as mining rights have been sold to a large corporation. Construction was beginning as we left.
Look at the sustainablity of this salt industry. The photo is gorgeous.
Now construction is going to change the land. More is not always better. Salt is an abundant resource being treated as scarce commodity. *sigh*
Will this salt mine look this beautiful in 15 years time?
The Longest Par 3 in the World (900 yards)
“The Legend Golf & Safari Resort is situated within the Entabeni Safari Conservancy in the malaria-free Waterberg Region of the Limpopo Province of South Africa…
It is also home to the longest and most extreme par 3 in the world. Set high up on Hanglip Mountain and accessible only by helicopter, this par 3 hole is played from a vertical height of 430 meters (1,410 feet)!
Some additional notes:
- Four separate cameras and the latest tracking equipment allow golfers to follow and capture their tee shot and the flight of the ball
- The fairway is seeded with Cynodon grass and contoured to funnel the ball to the green below
- In celebration of the African Renaissance, the green has been shaped like the map of Africa
- Spotters are posted around the green to let you know where your ball lands
- the 900-yard (830 meter) 19th is used as a playoff hole for major tournaments

One has to actually stroll through the house to capture its complexities and its connection to the exterior with the use of a natural wood ceiling floating on curving laminated wood beams which pass through a generous glass wall which wraps around the main living room. WOW.
I hiked to the very top of Half Dome when I was in 8th grade on a class overnight trip. I even looked over the edge, just to make it official. Seeing it from this vantage point makes our accomplishment even all the more amazing. Absolutely breathtaking. Then and now.

The Farmers Market
This morning, I went to a farmers market for the first time ever. What a fabulous experience! My son, who was never liked any fruit beyond apples and grapes, now loves peaches and nectarines and is willing to try more “exotic” fruits. He HATED honey and was willing to try the dark honey pictured. He loves it! WOW! Such a big shift in sentiment and I’m proud of him for opening his mind and his palette.
As for me, I was amazed at the size, quality, price, and variety of selection. The peppers were HUGE! I always thought farmers markets to be inconvient (only available at a certain time, day, and place) but now I can totally work it into my schedule. It’s worth it! I got the best value on food I have gotten in a long time. I like that the only handlers of my food is the farmer then me. And market shopping is so much more fun than grocery shopping. I am now a regular!

Our Mother-Daughter Hike
After Sea World, Imani and I went on a hike on the coast of California in Point Loma. It was breezy and beautiful. We saw plenty of lizards on the trail and crabs in the tide pools. A great end to our wonderful weekend together.

Happy Mothers Day!
I took the family on a morning hike through Eaton Canyon to find Eaton Canyon Falls. This is a 4-mile hike both ways, climbing over rocks, crossing through the river at least 10 times, and walking the trail path. The kids did an excellent job and made it all the way to the waterfall. What an adventure! Great start to my Mothers Day!!
