Afar nomads travel for weeks in camel train from Ethiopia to harvest  salt from the Djibouti salt flats. They sell the bags for around $5 a  piece. This way of life my be coming to an end as mining rights have  been sold to a large corporation. Construction was beginning as we left.

Look at the sustainablity of this salt industry. The photo is gorgeous.
Now construction is going to change the land. More is not always better. Salt is an abundant resource being treated as scarce commodity. *sigh*
Will this salt mine look this beautiful in 15 years time?

The real Holy Grail comes when transactions as low as 1 cent become doable. Why? Because then it will be possible to charge for things that we get for free now.
